Why is it that everyone's poo is a very similar colour, but our farts have a unique smell?

Its because the broken down product is broken down to its extreme. There is variation but very little. The difference in smell is because the reaction to break it down will vary producing different quantities of biproduct (gasses). This will be dependant on both diet and the persons physique and health.
eg. A skinny guy after a night on the lash followed by a curry will smell like a rats *** the next day. The same guy on a fruit diet and alcohol free will still smell like a rats *** but subtly different!
