I live in Georgia, USA. There was an auto accident. A car came flying through the yard, and then the tow truck came and got it. So the ruts are between 1 inch and 4 inches deep. Can I pour sand or top soil in, and gradually build it up over several weeks?

Hit up yer local Lowes or Home Depot first off.

PIck up enough bags of the cheap topsoil, it costs about $2 a bag, and some seed, try to get the same type you already have, rye, tall fescue, bluegrass, etc...

I would first pack the soil in really good, moisten it, step on it to tamp it down. When its as high as the surrounding soil, then add a thin layer of soil, hand sow some grass, then cover with a very very thin layer of more soil. Water, and it will grow and it'll be fine.

first take a hoe or shovel and knock down the rigid sides of the ruts, then you can dirt and top soil back over several weeks.

I would fill it with dirt and cover with good topsoil. You can then reseed using a combination of quick patch (ryegrass) and Kentucky Blue Grass.

Yes, either would be o.k. If you don't want to re-seed and have a sod yard, the sod will fill it in. Just be sure to watch for weeds.
