Turn on CNN. They are doing an interview with Bill Maher. He is actually stating that Bush had the right to fire those prosecutors because it was written in the Patriot Act to do so. He stated that no one questioned the Patriot Act because no one has gone over it with a fine tooth comb. After all these years, no one has caught that. He stated it was the people's responsibility to know what it says, including our legislators.
He also stated that the Democrats have lost their wind when it has come to this war. They should have cut off funding and they haven't.
I guess the media isn't as liberal as you thought it was...

Mayo, it wasn't a rant at all. I was stating that if the media was THAT left and he was THAT left, then he would have made those statements differently. He was siding with Bush on the issue. How is that LEFT. Did you even read what I wrote?

Overall, Bill is really outspoken and hated by a lot of groups. It's not that he is a liberal or conservative blow hole (example: Coulter), it's just that he speaks his mind.
And his show is usually pretty funny.
The media isn't liberal. It cracks me up when people say it is. "The Media" is made up of corporations, which tend to be big business, which is usually managed in a conservative style...meaning more money for the CEO's.
People who think the media is liberal have their heads in the sand anyways. What they do is compare Fox News to CNN. Well, Fox is so far right that anything else looks like a communist news station. In reality, at best CNN is in the middle.

Wow, did you actually read your rant before you posted it? I guess not since you just offered yet more proof that the media is heavily biased to the left.
So Bill Maher, a notorious liberal, said Bush had the right to fire federal prosecutors because of the Patriot Act? While I, myself, am personally against the Patriot Act, come on, liberals are vehemently against it. So Bill Maher, under the ruse of supporting the President, says Bush has the right to fire prosecutors because an Act that he has railed against gives the President the right? You don't think maybe Bill Maher is actually attacking the Patriot Act by defending the President?
So he further stated that the Democrats have lost their wind when it comes to the Iraq war since they have not already cut funding. So, in actuality, he is criticizing the Democrats for not being liberal enough.
Are you really that naïve?
These statement do nothing but further illustrate how far to the left the media really is.
Edit
-------------------------
So, now you add that Bill Maher gave kudos to Arnold Schwarzenegger? Arnold is a closet Democrat. He wants to created socialized medicine in California. It is nearly impossible to get much more liberal than that, so of course Bill Maher will say good things about Schwarzenegger.
The sad thing is I actually voted for Arnold twice!

No, it's not liberal. It's complicated but simply put, media consolidation(actually all corporate consolidation) has been allowed until you have a few owners of everything. Reporter still tend to be liberal but their bosses aren't so the result is conservative not liberal at all. A pretty clever plan but this a clever group. Employers have the power these days and the administration just said they had the right, "like any employer" to fire. Then there's the fact that it's cheaper to produce snippets of stories instead of real stories tah are researched. Did you notice that if you compare a Fox News AP story to the NY Times, they are different?

Really good point. I think there are some aspects to stations like CNN or MSNBC that are liberal-leaning, like the specific shows designated to people who are critical of the adminirstration like keith olberman, but the overall NEWS content the rest of the day does not seem have a liberal slant. I don't consider shows like Olberman's to be actual news since I feel it's so obvious that he's a critic and is voicing biased opinions.
I bounce around the cable news channels every morning and as far as I've seen, stations like cnn and msnbc always interview both sides of every argument. Unfortunately Fox is the one that doesn't seem to keep things so fair and balanced. Even outside of the commentary of O'Reilly the actual news content the rest of the day is right-leaning to the point of ridiculousness, it's so congratulatory of the president.
Come on guys, have the balls to break away and make some decisions for yourselves for a change.

Media can be either Liberal or Conservative. In truth Media blows the way of public opinion as they depend on advertisers, and those advertisers depend on ratings to determine who to advertise with..offend too many people and the ratings dry up and with them your ad monies.
However, it is far less biased, and there are a larger variety of opinions to choose from in this country than any other. Why you ask? Because unlike a great many other countries our major media outlets receive no government subsidies.
Look at the BBC...many people claim it is objective, when in fact quite to opposite is true. It SEEMS objective to a certain segment of the population here as it leans left....just as Fox seems more objective to conservatives and Dixiecrats as it leans right. But where as here if you do not like Fox you can watch left leaning MSNBC..in Britain the BBC is your ONLY option because media is not privately owned, and will never dig too deep looking for dirt on the Government or the Aristocracy.

Of the news media that tries to stay impartial (I'm not talking about Fox News here) they're actually more liberal on social issues (because they're made up of college educated individuals in the entertainment industry) but conservative on economic issues (being that most TV reporters and editors make well over $200k and way out of touch with the working man's problems).
Also don't discount the fact that these TV news outlets are controlled by conglomerates interested in making a buck, not informing the public; this results in more conservative/fluff slant than you'd like in your "hard news".
Lastly, due to TV news' "get out the story first" mentality, stories that end with easy, black/white answers usually predominate (many of which slant conservative, with love the right or wrong answers, instead of liberal shades of grey).

The mainstream media IS liberal, just not AS liberal as thhose on the far right would like to think!
We are talking about bias, not some "vast Left-wing conspiracy" out to make republicans look bad.
Something like 70% of all reporters labelled themselves "liberal" in a Pew Research poll! That's almost twice the general population! If almost everyone you work with thinks like you, that is bound to mess with your objectivity.
The mainstream media has gotten more balanced since Fox News arrived on the scene. They knew they'd lose all their conservative viewers if they didn't start at least trying to be more objective.

From what I've seen of the American media, no it isn't. There was no questioning of Bush's motives over Iraq, and it has remained continually uncritical.
Of course, the idea of a biased television medium is almost entirely an American concept. Newspapers have political leanings everywhere, but only in America is there no genuinely objective television news.

No, the media is not liberal.
The so called media is owned by some of the richest people on earth. They are not liberals by any means.
They keep a pretty tight leash on the employees.
Dan Rather has been black balled.
