From very personal experience - no. I am an alcoholic. Our addiction to alcohol does not affect anything else. We are all totally different - some of us cheat, some of us don't. The alcoholism doesn't relate to fidelity at all.
I've known many alcoholics and I've not noticed any different behaviour between them and my non alcoholic friends.
An awful lot of alcoholics begin using alcohol to cover up insecurities and social phobias, and these people are unlikely to ever get close enough to another person to cheat.
Alcoholism can severly affect peoples lives and can put a lot of pressure on relationships though.

I'd say yes but cheating and alcohol are the symptoms of immaturity, hence they often go hand in hand. The alcoholic I knew was blabbering about romanticism but he only talked about his needs and how he was feeling, no interest in my needs and my feelings. I don't believe such a person is capable of love (you know the feeling that makes you care about others).
I don't think alcohol makes someone cheat who wouldn't otherwise.

MOst people that are dealing with alcoholism already have a secret life they tend to hide from many but for many I believe the alcohol is there number one vice for men they usually lack the ability to get an erection if they have had to much to drink. Women on the other hand have the ability to do this and most women lose alot of there inhibitions after to much to drink so if you are asking about infidelity I believe personally that women probably are more likely to cheat or have a one night stand when they have consumed to much alcohol or have a problem with it.

I think alcoholic women are more likely to cheat. Alcohol is a depressant and can prevent a man from being able to have sex, so this fact alone could be argued that its more unlikely for men to cheat. However... Statistics show that about 50% of people cheat. Men and women. So, Id say alcohol probably has less to do with it, than the persons own personality. If the person has cheated on someone before, it is 100% more likely that they will cheat again. Hope this helps.

Alcoholism is problem. Infidelity is another. The partner that will cheat on you will do it regardless. I do find that many people will blame alcohol for having had a one night stand, or cheating, but not necessary Alcoholics will cheat more or less than someone who is not an alcoholic.

I have sat in many AA and NA meetings and listened to people pour their guts out over cheating. 99% of drug users and alcoholics cheat because they were to drunk or high to say no. It is a shame. As if these same people were not drinking and using, they would never ever cheated!
Drugs took me places I didn't need to be going, places I didn't want to go, and places I don't even remember.
I have been clean 31 years.
Does this help any?

It depends on how entrenched in alcoholism the alcoholic is. From personal experience when i was an active alcoholic ( i have been sober for over 13 yrs ) i had no clue what real love was about and woulkd often find myself seeking someone who understood me when my ex-wife didn't kiss my butt and give me my way, which was actually a lie i told myself to rationalize my illicit behavior. i do know other sober alcoholics who didn't cheat on their wives other than drinking .

I think when someone is under the influence of alcohol they can more easily succumb to temptation and are in situations (bars, parties) where they meet others of the opposite sex quite frequently.
Also, alcoholics are immature as they stopped maturing the moment they began drinking.
It's hard not to love them and it's not wrong, but remember, they don't love themselves so they are not capable of having a mature, loving relationship with anyone else while they are in active alcoholism. And you can't cure it or control it.
Lots of experience with them - husband currently sober 3 years.

YES THEY ARE LIKELY TO CHEAT ON THEIR PARTNERS. Alcoholics have a problem with controling their wants/desires and keep in mind i'm talking about wants not needs. Therefore if he desires another woman the same excuse and rationalization that goes through his mind everytime he's about to support his alcoholic behavior by having another drink, is the same excuse and reasoning he will use when he's about to cheat. The excuse will go something like this, " i couldnt control myself, i had to have her"

my ex wasnt an alcoholic but it seemed that when he went out on the weekends and got drunk he would cheat, but he did it while he was working too and absolutely sober, i dont think it makes a difference if you are drunk or sober guys are dumb and they will use any excuse to get out of it, whether it be the chick forced him to do it, or it be as simple as i was drunk i didnt even knoiw what i was doing, if your man is cheating on you dont let him get away with it just because he is an alcoholic get rid of him, it is not worth your time to try to change him because i tell you now that you wont be able too, im not saying that he wont change i am just saying that you cant make him good luck and i hope all is weel and everything works out
