The name I currently have is longggg. I am training to be a doctor and I feel that this will be a setback. I'd be grateful to know exactly what I need to do, and all the changes that I have to make. Thank you all in advance :)

When i changed mine it was just one easy step. Ring your local Citizens Advice Bureau & find out when theres a J.P. there. take your birth certificate & they will do it for a nominal fee, I think i paid about £5. they give you a piece of paper to present to change passport, driving license, bank account & every thing else. It surprised me how cheap & easy it was. Dont pay a solicitor silly money. As I say ring the C.A.B

If you are in the United States, just visit your local social security office. You can change your name there. Be sure to take your birth cirtificate and any photo id's you have.

I don't know what country you're in, but I did it here in Australia through the office of Births, Deaths and Marriages. You give them your details, and you pay a fee (it was a bit over $100AUD when I did it, but that was ten years ago), then they issue you with a new birth certificate, with your new name on it.

change name by deed poll, go to any solicitor and they will do it for you, then when you get the paper stating said new name just flash it round as you would your birth certificate, it replaces that you see. ok chucks..

I changed my name. Went to the solicitors, gave her £52 and she changed it just like that.
