Henna is simply a natural hair dye which ia also good for your hair. If you want the benefit of henna without the color, you can check other natural herbs you can add to it in order to make the colour as closer to your natural hair colour as possible. Some kinds of henna are packed and sold in different colors as the natural additions have already been added to it.

I have used henna in my hair for a year now. Henna is a dye, like the other answers mention, but I must emphasize that there is only ONE color/kind of henna. Henna dyes hair red- if you're blond then you'll come out a bright redhead, if you're brunette then you'll come out auburn, black hair gets a red sheen to it.
When you see supermarket henna claiming to be different colors, that's because chemicals have been added to it. It may still be natural, with indigo or cassia, but it's not pure henna.
Henna does condition hair and lend shine. If you want the same effect without color, use cassia. Cassia doesn't 'count' as hair dye, because there is no dye in the plant.

I would consider it a dye as well as a natural conditioner. I've been using henna for over 2 years. I have naturally dirty blond hair and change it to a deep red color! I love it and I would never go back to chemical treatments! The henna makes your hair much shinier and softer! If you would like to use it try going too http://www.rainbowresearch.com/html/henna.htm
Well good luck! I hope this helps!

Henna is a dye. It is a plant and was used by the ancient Egyptians. In addition to being a dye it is also good for the hair.

dyeing, henna colors your hair, there are different colors for henna, black, red and blondish very light brown :) it is concidered healthier because it's all natural, but henna tends to render your hair dry (not soft), that's why some mix yoghurt with it. if henna is making hair softer, high chance it isn't natural.
