Get rid of Tiscali and get yourself a decent provider. Watch out for their "final charges" when you do leave them though. They'll be chasing you for months afterwards.
I moved from Tiscali to Sky and have never looked back. It's a much better service.

I have had it for 6 months now,and did have teething problems, but over the last 3 months these problems seem to have been ironed out. I was told it was because of the local telephone exchange. I have got Sky+ Sky talk and the broadband,so that if anything goes wrong with any of the services I threaten to cancel all of them. They soon put it right. I was with Tiscali, and you might find it will take a couple of weeks to transfer

I'm near Manchester, England. Have had Sky Broadband since Nov06. Problems at first, but it was new to the area, and now 4 months later I find there are no problems at all. The modem box is so tiny you wont even notice it, and its a bargain at only £10 pm unlimited usage. Whatever you decide, dont do Orange. Have just upgraded at our business office and its caused more problems than we can deal with, and they have rendered the e-mail system useless to us as they have registered our company address and password incorrectly and have told us there's nothing they can do!!! Paying for something we cant use! They upgraded us from a dial up connection and the details were ok then. Go for Sky, I would recommend it, having heard some nightmare stories elsewhere. Good luck.

The router is a SKY badged Netgear wireless modem 108MB router where the eprom is pre-flashed with SKY login details, This is unusual and is the first time I have seen this across all providers.
However I think it is an excellent idea for users who are not technically minded, literally plug and play, SKY also pre-programs the router with a WPA key to protect access.
It still allows you to adjust the key to one that you want and add MAC filters, change channel, SSID, all in all anything you would want to do with a normal router.
Personally I would like the option to be able to change the WAN connectivity settings, these are hidden on the SKY/Netgear router.
The Wireless Router is excellent (well it would be being a Netgear)
The routing hangs occasionally (I Think this is because of SKYs immaturity in the industry, DNS management, Load balancing and routing, I believe this will rectify itself in time.)
The cheaper options are capped at 4MB so It will never go faster than that (Cant complain really)
The help desk is in India (They are hopeless), dont even bother ringing it,
There is a number available (Technical helpline only) in Ireland they are very good, helped me immensely, problem solved in 5 minutes. The number is hidden away on the website.
You only get one email address and its on the sky.com domain eg yourname@sky.com
The IP is dynamic each time you connect it changes.
To be honest I wish I had paid a little more each month and remained with my old provider.
It is widely known the future is cable/NTL but not for another 5 years as they are also very immature, although service has been helped with Virgin management.

Would and have thoroughly recommend Sky for Broadband. Yes, at times it can be a lil slow but you get used to it and its not very often. I've had it about 6wk now and had no probs whatsoever. The eng that installed it (free) was a great chap, friendly and helpful, even cleared some of the carp that was on my laptop and deleted the norton software as sky comes with McAfee (which apparently isn't the greatest but hey thats free too...!) Yep, would definately go for it! Good Luck :-)

I've had Sky broadband since the begining of Feb, at the moment I haven't experienced any problems, but when I signed up they did say there could be some teething problems because broadband is something fairly new to Sky. I've had one day where it was quite slow but that's it.
Hope that helps. lol xx

BT is the best in every aspect, except for price,I had talktalk, what a nightmare.BT technical support is very good, also BT run all the exchanges which means you keep connected all the time.A lot of broadband providers can't get their equipment to work properly in BTs exchanges, thats why people have problems.
