They are both controlled by lobbiests, either for big business or powerful special interest groups.
The late, great Bill Hicks said it best. To paraphrase:
The American governmental structure can be compared to two puppets: the public thinks it has a Democratic party puppet on the left hand, and a Republican party puppet on the right....but then one day, you notice there's ONE GUY holding both puppets...!!!

The same could be asked of the Democrats. I believe Zell Miller nailed it on the head when he said, "The U.S. Senate has become just one big, bad, ongoing joke, held hostage by special interests and so impotent an eighteen wheeler truck loaded with Viagra would do no good. Andrew Young, one of America’s most thoughtful men, recently took a long and serious look at a U.S. Senate race and after visiting Washington concluded that the Senate is composed of: ‘A bunch of pompous old (folks) listening to people read statements they didn’t even write and probably don’t believe.’" It applies equally to anyone who deals with lobbyists. Lobbyists are the bane of any true republic, as they are an attempt to circumvent the will of the People.

They've been brought up to think that if someone calls him or herself an authority, that makes him/her one. Just look at those idiots who stand behind pulpits. Authority, in actuality, belongs to nobody other than those to whom I grant it.
Conservatives are cattle with the same mentality that would, even today, follow a Hitler or a Nero's word to carry out genocide because "if the exalted leader says it is good, it must be good." They refuse to call such "leaders" out before they get too powerful because that would be "disloyal" (despite its protecting their loved ones in the long run.)
Conservative is, officially, a bad and ugly word.

Well, in all fairness, the dem's are just as beholden to special interests. This is a problem that is pandemic and pervasive throughout all levels of government, and it can only be solved by americans getting off their @sses and expecting more out of their elected officials. It is true that Republicans tend to be the more glaring examples of corruption, but they are certainly not alone in this.
As much as I hate the current administration, I don't think name calling is going to be productive. Why not work to push campaing financing reform instread.

For the same reason Democrats are.
It's because the special interest groups are their primary source of funding and campaign contributions, which in turn is how their members stay in political office.
And your list of supposed special interest groups contains about as many irrational and inappropriate examples as the anti-Democrat list.

You are equating two distinct kinds of groups:
(A) groups that want to limit other people's otherwise free activity (including those that want the government to make someone else pay their bills)
(B) groups that just want to be free to do what they want to do.
There's nothing wrong with type B - in fact the travesty is that they have to pay the government off just to leave them alone.
The NRA don't want anything from anyone else, they don't want to limit other people's rights, they just want others to leave them alone.
"Big" Energy, insurance, etc... just want to be free to sell their products to willing buyers - - though Big Oil and Big Agribusiness want and get subsidies and that's wrong.

They want to privatize everything to make all their friends rich. That is the only reason they are in government at all.
