My personal view would be to bin it and start again - first impressions last and why would an employer want someone who does shoddy work?

As an HR Manager, it is something I notice on forms but will ignore ONLY if the rest of the application shows the person to be an excellent candidate for the job and the other applications aren't so good.

If you have time to get another application form, definitely bin it.

As a teacher I know that we scan for spelling mistakes on application forms and you may not be shortlisted for interview because of it.

If you don't have time then use correction fluid or just cross through the word and spell it properly - it's much better to acknowledge the mistake than leave it in. You don't have to be perfect at spelling to be a teacher, but you do have to use spell check as it would be bad news to spell badly on any literature you give the students or parents.

Good luck

Applying for jobs can be extremely daunting and time-consuming. But if you make the effort, it may get you somewhere. I would keep the application form for my own records in case they call you up for an interview so you know what you wrote on the form & fill in a fresh copy. First impressions do count. I'm one of those who always notices mistakes in other peoples' work, so it's best to do it right the first time than not bother and leave it as it is.

Put a neat line through the error and write the correct form above or below. Alternatively, is there a copy of the application form you can get on line? If so consider downloading and rewriting app. Remember that unless specifically barred from doing so, extention sheets (where you explain how you meet the job specifications) can be word processed and printed out to be inserted into the application.

it depends on the job and the employer a good employer would respect the fact that you are honest about mistakes, just put a single line through it tidy and carry on but if you have a spare application you could use the miss spelt one as a copy icase you make any more then when you have completed it copy it to the new one this will give you chance to check it over and see if you are happy with it, and it also allows you to change anything you want, a full correct one does look beter but it's up to you.
take care hope you get the job.

They'll be looking for someone who takes a pride in their work from day one - and that means the completion of an application form. Start again and get it right - I'm sure it will make you feel better too -you're obviously concerned about it or you wouldn't ask the question. Good luck.

I would reconsider your application. Personally I would re-do it again, perhaps the employer will notice your spelling mistake and see it as a negative quality. Pity if you did not get the interview over one spelling mistake. Good luck

It sounds a little harsh ... but if i'm looking at an apllication form and there's any grammar or spelling mistakes then it goes straight into the bin - doesn't matter how good they are!!
