If they're well-healed and not infected, I think they can smell icky just because if you don't regularly remove the earrings and clean the skin, normally shed dead skin cells can be retained under the earring and decay (by action of normal bacteria and fungi). Kind of like when the skin under a cast starts to smell funky.

Also, your earlobes are near enough to your ear canal that a small amount of wax will end up there under the earrings too. That could contribute to the odor.

Well, that's my theory, anyway. I don't know for sure but I've wondered the same thing.

It could be infected. Clean them with alcohol, even though it stings. several times a day. Also use gold earings only, you could be reacting to the metals. Dont share earrings,

you need to clean your earrings.. use hydrogen peroxide or rubbing alcohol.

you might want to throw some on your piercings as well.

cuz u dont clean them? water tends to make clog te hole as well as other junk, maybe thats it??
