I first smoked when I was 12 didn't start smoking habitually until 15-16 probably... I was dumb and a lot of people were doing it and I eventually picked up the habit. I wasn't pressured into it but it was definently around me and offered to me. It went hand in hand with gettin drunk.. at first it was just on the weekends then cigarettes turned into an everyday thing.

I'm almost 21 now, I quit smoking around new years.. So it's been nearly 3 months since i've had one. I didn't use patches or anything although I had tried them before. I just decided that I didn't want to throw money away on cigarettes anymore and that I didn't need to be addicted to them. Of course I tried to quit 100 times before this but now looking back I realized I didn't want to quit nearly as bad as I did this time. I really wanted to be free from the addiction. As the days go by the thoughts about having a cigarette slowly go away. I feel bad for people who have smoked for more years than I have and have a lot of respect for those who have quit its so much harder than non-smokers realize.

I started when I was 25. I got a job in a town about an hour away from my home, so it was a long commute. I got bored alot on the drive, and the other girl that I carpooled with a few times a week was a smoker. She said that it helped to pass the time, so I thought I'd give it a try. Dumb reason, I know but it really does help break the monotony. I am still smoking now at 36 and enjoy every puff.

My brother used to give me a cigarette when I was five because my parents used to make me smell his breath to see if he was smoking and I couldn't rat him out if I did the same thing. Since then, I would sneak one here and there from mom, grandma, and so on. Didn't start to full time smoke until I was 16. My boyfriend smoked, so I did. Kept puffing ever since.

At 16 while I was in school, thought it was the "cool" thing to do. I wish I never started cause now I can't stop.
