Hey all,
I need to write an essay on buffy the vampire. Basicly i need to talk about the "new girl power" that Buffy teaches. I really need help with this..cause did not even, hear about her until recently..when i got this assignment. (ps. i did not grow up here)Any info on her or what she "teaches" or the point the show is trying to get across would be absolutely GREAT!

Umm... There is way too much to that answer. First of all she was a vampire SLAYER :) The whole purpose of the show was to take the stero-typical blonde girl horror movie victim - you know the first stupid person to die in traditional slasher movies and turn her into an empowered, empassioned fighter for good. The character wasn't always book smart but she could come up with a plan for a full scale attack or single person recon mission on a moments notice. Often implementing a plan before it was even fully formed in her mind. She was a leader, and often she expected her friends/followers to do as she said with out question, and often there was good reason for her to keep her friends out of the loop. Sometimes she kept them unaware for completely selfish reasons. This showed to the world that yes she was brilliant in tactical matters, but was still human after all. She made mistakes. But when she did she ponied up to it and moved on to the next stage. There are so many different aspects that showed her to be a powerful individual with definite standards of "right and wrong" but she was also completely human with human frailties. I guess this isn't very complete, but the question is pretty open ended and it's hard to narrow down an answer with this short of time and space.

I'm going to try to add on to the excellent answer already given. There can only be one slayer at a time. Upon the death of the current slayer, a "potential" is made the new slayer. Towards the end of the season the ultimate evil was about to unleash itself on the world, and Buffy was training a group of potential slayers in the art of slaying. There was a lot of questioning which of the 10 or so women she was training would become the new slayer, but somehow Buffy figures how to empower ALL of the potentials to have slayer power, instead of just one. I think she had the help of her closest friend Willow (a witch) in doing the spell to let all the potentials be full slayers (sorry if I am getting the details a little wrong - it's been a while since I've seen it..) BUT the main lesson seems to be that there is vast stores of power and strength in EVERY young woman and it is up to us to channel our power for good over evil.

i imagine change hit the nail on the accurate imo a lot of buffy's 'demons' can basically as honestly be interpreted as metaphorical, as can particular different supernatural elements of the practice, for real existence situations or complications. One get at the same time is in season 6 at the same time as Willow spirals out of control because of her severe use and habit to 'magic' that can honestly translate right into a metaphor for drug habit. yet another replaced into having to kill Angel on the accurate of season 2... nicely you get the conception.

Well your question is what the show is about and it is, like the other person said, supposed to be about how a blond little girl, who is supposed to die frist in scary movies, comes out on top. but in several episodes it comes back to one thing: It's about power. the "new girl power" you're reffering to isnt very specific but towards the end of the series she teaches new potential slayers that it is about power and they need to learn about that. potential slayers dont have the power a real full slayer has so she teaches them how to become full slayers and she shares her power with them. that could be what you're asking about but your question was a little vague.
