No oath and no transcript or written record in a closed door meeting means that Miers and Rove can lie repeatedly, with no fear of perjury, or even of being quoted!

Innocent citizens' phone calls and e mail can be monitored without a warrant, but the schemes and abuses of these high level officials remain off the record.

WHY? The Republicans say the Presidents advisers have to feel free to give him advice. They don't say that this includes advice on how to break the law and undermine the Constitution.

For the same reason Bush and Cheney testified behind closed doors but not under oath ... they don't want to commit perjury.

Why bother?

What is the point of the conversation that is so strictly bound to yield no useful and actionable "testimony".

"Sure, we'll talk...but you can't take notes, it won't be under oath and you can't use whatever I say against me or any others now or in the future".

He stipulated...not under oath, no transcripts and no subsequent subpoenas...which is pretty mush what I said.

Talk about a generous offer there Mr Fielding. Thanks for nothing...and weren't the Repubs complaining earlier about wasteful and pointless non-binding resolutions?

When someone acts as Rove and Myers are...I'm thinking one thing...Yeah, sure...they will lie for you behind closed doors.

Because the Bush administration doesn't believe it is answerable to Congress, and doesn't believe that it is subject to the same federal laws that apply to everyone else.

It'll be interesting to see if Congress lets them get away with ignoring a Congressional subpoena (assuming one is issued).

I beleive you'll find that the republicans 'have something to hide'.

Because if they are asked what they had for lunch on April 18, 1987 and forget that they ordered rye bread as opposed to white they will be found guilty on four counts of purgery and obstruction of justice!
