It is important to remember that the sky bridge is no where near Grand Canyon National Park.

The Grand Canyon itself is nearly 250 miles long, but not all of it has the same huge size or dramatic natural features. The biggest, deepest and most dramatic section of the canyon (the one with all the famous spires, buttes and formations) is located in a stretch of canyon about 50 miles long that is covered by the Grand Canyon National Park.

The Sky Bridge is located in a completely different section of the canyon - nearly 100 miles downstream from the heart of the park where the land is owned by several Indian tribes and the canyon looks very different. Not only can't you see the Sky Bridge from the National Park, but it would take you over 4 hours to drive from one to the other. So the Sky Bridge will not have much impact on the Grand Canyon as most people know it.

As for if it was the best thing for the tribe to do with their section of the canyon... well, I guess that is for them to decide. Even among tribal members, there was much debate because the construction threatened ancient burial grounds and some felt that the tourist development violated their cultural and traditional ties to the land. However, given the relative poverty of the tribe (they don't have any large casinos), one can understand their reasoning and hope that they manage it with a degree of restraint and good taste.

Don't get me wrong... as a person who visits the canyon a lot for hiking and relaxation, I am thankful that it was set aside for the public and that development there is minimal and not overly flashy. As President Roosevelt said, man can not improve upon it, only protect it for future generations. If it were me, the Sky Bridge is not what I would choose to do. But thankfully - regardless of if you like it or not - it was built in a section of the canyon that very few people ever visited and does not impact the prime section of canyon in the park.

I've been to the Grand Canyon twice and its an awesome sight - I'm looking forward to seeing the sky bridge.

I don't think it will ruin the canyon, you can access the views from many different areas and it would be easy to avoid the bridge if you don't want to see it but on the other hand, it will bring in more money so good luck to them.

Having just seen it on the news, it's far less impressive than the artists impressions I first saw lead me to believe. Is it spoiling the Grand Canyon - not really it's miles long this thing is tiny.

It's completely wrong. Hard to blame the tribe for making a buck, though.
