I'll just say my mother is bi-polar. She takes everything out on me . That should explain it all

My daughter in law is the monster. I have been nothing but nice to her but she loves to try and stir up trouble. At first my son would ask me if I did the things she claimed but now he just tells her latest lies. I don't understand why she has the need to behave like that. She has my son in another State and I haven't seen him in years or met two of his three children, so she should be happy. I always swore I'd be a good MIL and according to my son in law I am.

No, not all women turn into monster mother inlaws. I think the ones that are monsters have sons who are momma's boys, otherwise they wouldn't be able to get away with being a pain in the #@@ to their son and daugther inlaw because the son would be mature enough to stand up to his mother and tell her to back off and butt out of their business.

I don't think they are out to "ruin" relationships. Moms just tend to have a hard time stepping back when their kids get married and letting them run their own lives. As a mother you get to make decisions for your children for so many years that when it is time to let go, it can be tough. You and your spouse need to put forth a united front and be able to deal with any issues that arise w/o either of you calling your mothers.

For most people the only relationship that comes close to the bond with a parent is one formed with a spouse. So naturally feelings of protectiveness, etc. can come up even on a subconcious level. I'm sure all of us will have the possibility of becoming that way no matter how much we'll want to deny it!

Most monster in laws try to ruin their children's relationships because. They are selfish and don't want anyone but them to get attention. And if you really look into it you will find that
most of them weren't very good mothers to begin with.So they really don't realize they are doing something wrong.Because they have gotten away with this behavior towards their child/children for so long. They think that their meddling in their children's life is their god given right.Basically they suck!and that is why.

No. But you married his momma's little boy. I can tell. Either give her all you got and scare the fear of God into her right now, or move to the other side of the world. She wants him to love his mother more than he does his wife-----no matter what garbage is coming out of both their mouths.
I divorced my first husband because he keep jumping hopscotch from me to his Mommy. He kept trying to keep us both happy. She was thrilled to get him back too. When he calls, I hang up. I have a life again and I know how to spot those Momma's Boys now!!

No, I won't get involved in my son's marriage, because I have a mother in law who is entirely too involved in my marriage. But my mother is completely objective and often the voice of reason for me. I think for some moms, they just don't know how to let go.

My mother in law is wonderful. I love her and she is great to me and an excellent grandmother.
My Mom and my husband get along wonderfully.
I hope that things will change for you and you can have a better relationship.

Well, it usually has to do with the attitude of the spouse. In your case, a bad attitude. You need to respect this woman, not call her names - she raised the man you love and chose to marry. So suck it up and be polite.
