That's the stage at which parents are "letting go" and allowing their children to start being adults, and it's the stage where children are rebelling and starting to assert themselves as adults.
It's the perfect time for the Lib-Tards to start brainwashing them. Parents are only now starting to wake up to this situation.
No need to fear though. Once they graduate and start working and paying taxes, they resort to their Conservative roots. It's called "getting mugged by reality."

Most freshmen in college are unaware of political issues. Granted, they might have a knowledge of "what's going on" in the world, but until they reach the age of 18, many feel that there's nothing they can do about it. Many parents just don't care about political issues and rely on colleges to "indoctrinate" them into the process.
In my freshman year at Rutgers, I had a history professor who tried to interest the class in politics. Fortunately, I could see that he had an agenda and took some of what he said with a "grain of salt". I can imagine, however, that other students didn't notice his agenda and were swayed by his points of view. (Sad)

If they are attending a university they must be over 18 and no longer children. Time to cut the apron strings. You will not live forever and they need to learn about the the real world without you around.

1.) because your children allow themselves to be indoctrinated and 2.) they aren't children anymore. they can choose for themselves what they believe in. they don't need your approval to adopt a new philosophy. and don't say that they do because you are paying their tuition. thats just an excuse that cries "i can't deal with my son or daughter now being an adult so i'll hang whatever i can over their heads so long as it makes me feel like i'm still in control."

Because they know more than you do.
BTW -- college students are not children -- they are adults. Universities also teach them to think for themselves, so they can accept or reject ideas that are taught to them by professors.
