I've never had a job before, and I just turned 14, and I really want a job with all my friends in the summer. None of us have ever worked before, but we are interested in working summer jobs at a clothing store or something? What do you reccomend for me and my friends who want to make some money for the first time over the summer? We will be spending the entire summer in Rhode Island with my friend's family, so maybe a job around there? Any reccomendations?

Since you never had a job before it will be a little hard to apply for a job in which you have no experience in especially any department store because they will ask you if you have any work experience. Usually if a department store is hiring they will choose the applicant with the most experience in the work field. But as advice from someone who passed through that, I could advise you to first do volunteer work around your community because most successful and high paying jobs rely on other community experience which could also speak for what kind of person you really are. Actions speak louder than words!

Best of luck! Take advantage now to better your future!

I would make sure you are legal to work at 14 in RI. Most states have strict laws against that. My guess is that RI will not allow companies to hire someone so young.

Don't worry, you still have options. Try babysitting or dog walking or even mowing lawns. Sometimes you can life guard, but most likely you won't be able to do any job "on the books". You are too young to be tied down to a work schedule, enjoy your summer!

If you don't understand what to do ask, otherwise keep your mouth shut except when talking to the customer. Grocery clerk, grass cutting using the customers lawn mower, spring clean up, fall clean up raking leaves etc, window washing in the summer, snow shovelling in the winter. Caddy at golf course, thats a nice one, working at Mc Donald's or another fast food place. Advertise on bulletin broads student for hire with your name and phone and see what your offered.
