Every time I put in a disk and double-click on the A-Drive, after a few seconds, it tells me to "please insert a disk into Drive A."

The disk is properly inserted, and Windows (XP home) insists everything is working properly.

I recently switched the A-Drive from this computer with an identical one (same make/model) and that's when the problems began. Should I try to switch the original A-Drive back in? Or is there another culprit at work here?

Switch it back. There is obviously something wrong with it. A brand new one only costs $15 max. People still use them, I guess.

make sure that you got the ribbon cable inserted properly as it can be inserted backwards very easily as well as the power connector. the connections are opposite from the cd drives and the hard drive connection, for example the red wire should face to the outside of the case (power supply) for the "a" drive but on the cd drive, hard drive the yellow wire faces the outside of the case. if you have all the connections
correct then the A drive must be faulty. good luck.

Howzit!

1. There is something wrong with your floppy.
2. There is something wrong with the Floppy drive
3. There is something wrong with the connection of the drive.
4. If you know what you will be doing if I ask you to open the drive and clean off the dust then do it, if not give it to someone who will know what I'm talking about.

Alternativelly you can buy:
1. New floppy drive and new floppy disks.
2. Or a 1GB USB mass storage that retails for the same price as a pack of 20floppy drives.

[which is better... the choice is yours] - floppy drives are dead technology my friend.

Good luck

If its the same make and model then you might want to try to update the firmware and reinstall the software. But worst case scenario the drive itself is bad in that case put the old one back in.
