You have good caregiver who understands taking a "hands off approach" to pregnancy and birth! Yeah!
How far dilated or effaced you are really means nothing unless you are in active labor. You can be closed up tight as a bank vault and have a baby a few hours later. Or you can walk around for a week or more 3-4 cm dilated and 100% effaced. (I did with #1.) Unless you are in active labor, this information is pretty useless.
If you are really curious, you CAN check yourself. Make sure your hands are clean and your nails are well trimmed. The best way to reach is usually sitting on the toilet or standing with one foot up on something, like the edge of the tub. Feel for your cervix and find the little dimple in the middle of it (the os, or opening, or your cervix). If you've started to dilate, it will feel more like a hole and you may be able to slightly insert a finger. Feel how far open it seems to you. Dilation is measured in cm, with 10 cm being considered completely dilated.

I could not tell, but my Dr. checked me around that time, I was dialated around 2 I think with each baby (2) at 37 weeks, but you can stay that way for a long time. I had my oldest 1 week early (I fell down slick stairs and went into labor the next day) and my 2nd I was induced 1 week early due to size of baby, they were off on calculations, she was not 10+ lbs thank god.

37 weeks and he is not checking? Wow, my wife is 40 weeks and due any day, For the last month her dr. has been checking and for the last three weeks she has been dialated 2cm, she doesnt feel a thing, didnt even know she was till she was checked. I hear some women dont even dialate till the go into labor and get to the hospital.

The only way you can feel if you are dialated is to check your cervix...pretty much doubt at 37 weeks you can do it yourself. You don't actually feel anything when you dialate.

When you have false contractios your usually starting to dialate. On your last month you will always be at least 2cm dialated. That's normal. You will see small patches of blood sometimes. Your doc is a numbskull. Most docs check for dialation every visit.

if your REALLY that curious..go up to the hospital and tell them that you are feeling what you think may be labor pains. One of the first things they will do is check you to see if you are dialating. Thats what i would do in your case...but its up to you if you want to go to the hospital or not.
