I am as well. What's your reaction to the conservative call for an amendment to the U.S. Constitution to prohibit gay marriage? Some pesky state legislatures have passed bills to permit civil unions, which some conservatives can't abide. Seems like an attack on states' rights to me.

Federalists believed in a strong federal government, hence the name. The Democratic Republicans or just the Republicans were more about States' Rights. Both points were valid as this is when the United States was a developing nation at the time. Thomas Jefferson was a Republican while John Adams was a Federalist. Washington never belonged to a political party, feeling that they would divide the new nation. The truth is that political parties have kept us together .
