I am a moderate aka centrist on most issues. However everywhere I go, my peers and friends seem to make fun of me belief I take the middle ground on most subjects. They seem to believe that centrists are people who can't make up their mind and are dependent on others to make their decisions, which are untrue.

I am a centrist and I am not moderate on all issues. I won't necessarily seek the middle ground on every issue. Most of the time I side with the right on economic issues and side with the left on social one (doesn't that make me a libertarian lol).

My question is why are centrist viewed as unintelligent individuals that cannot make up their mind? Sometimes, I am even afraid to admit that I am a moderate because most people are either liberals or conseratives.

I think MOST liberals and conservatives are actually easily impressionable and actually form their opinions from their hatred of the other side that they now make decisions based on spite.

Take Global Warming for instance. Most scientists accept that there is evidence of Global Warming... this should be a environmental issue but it has turned into a political issue. As a matter of fact, ALL environmental issues are now political issues. Most Americans know very little about the environment and/or the history of the environment but people now argue it in political terms like they are experts. This is JUST one issue. People now take one side of an issue because they hate the supporters of an ideal they don't want to be associated with. Your friends are as simple-minded as they accuse you of... they are the ones who are "dependent on others to make their decisions."

Just think whatever you want. I wish more people would. I am very suspicious of anyone who calls themselves liberal or conservative.

Because moderates are the majority in this country and always decide the direction in which the country will go. Both conservatives and liberals look at moderates with disdain because it's the moderates who decide which side is right or wrong.
People on the extreme left or right are generally in need of a cranial rectum inversion. People suffering from that condition just can't see the light, obviously.
In the end, moderates tend to look at issues objectively. Liberals and conservatives can only be subjective.

I'm a Centrist and I'm not wishywashy or spineless. I have strong convinctions and I will defend them. I don't see any good coming from the liberal/conservative ideologuies nor do I see anything good coming from the Democrats or Republicans. Most people think centrists just want to please everybody and don't take stands. I take stands and I don't care if people don't like me because of what I think. **** them.

I am a Conservative because MY ideology most closely resembles their beliefs.
Moderates/Centrists are not disliked by people. They are just not taken as seriously as you maybe would like.
You are viewed by many as a "middle child". Wanting to get along with everyone and really not having your own personality.

I am centrist, too. There's no reason to be afraid. Life is not just black or white.

Because we are in the majority, and we decide elections. That is why the two party system can't stand us independents. We don't fall for their rhetoric

They are wishy washy and don't have real conviction. I would respect a far left winger more than a moderate. At least they know who they are.
