There is something that expo markers makes called a board doctor. I use sharpies all the time on my whiteboard and use this to clean it off. Here's the website.

Nail polish remover is great for permanent marker.
One other product I like to use for tough stains is called PURPLE POWER. It is sold at WAL*MART in the automotive department. I buy it by the gallon usually around $5-$6. You need a spray bottle and dilute it (but well worth the extra steps.) I have removed permanent marker from my walls and kitchen floor, without harm to the surface.
Must say overall it does more great cleaning in other parts of home.

i think if you color over the permanent marker with a dry erase marker, then let it sit for a little bit, it'll erase just with a dry erase eraser or a towel.
