If you want to see the typical clothing worn by males, age 12 to 18 in 1969-73, watch the Brady bunch. No joke. They had the typical everything in clothing including the bell-bottem cords, wide collard shirts and platform shoes(circa 1973); I was in high school then and this is an accurate reflection of what teen wore then as the Brady's wanted to portray and "Average American Family";
Another source might be old magazines found online or at an old book store, the adds inside will; show you what was worn then; and lastly, old movies, "Columbo" still shown on Direct TV was filmed during the era, but old 1960's and 70's movies are best, Like, the Original "Texas chainsaw massacre";
and..........I was in high school from 1970 to 74; typically I wore Jeans, short sleeve shirts with pattern, or Tee shirts, Converse white/black and Cords, green, black, purple, Browns ect; hats were a no-no as the hair was excellent and coulden't be covered....Cowboys wore dotted welding hats and shitkickers-jeans (if your in Texas); typically the "Mod squad look" (tv show, 1970, look it up online) was ok for occasions but people generally did not dress up all nice each day; oh, on shirts, leave the top two buttons Open, and chains were a no-no, they could be "puca shells" (small sea shells) or leather weave, Indian leather chains were great, if your tan keep the collar wide open and show the necklace.... but silver and gold were strickly for girls or Pimps, if your black, you can get away with Gold chains for circa 1970 and feel free to pile them on...
A typical misnomer about the 1970's was that all of the 70's styles counted as One, they did not. 1969 to 1975 was one segment of styles and from 76 to 80 was another; god, pleeeeeeease do not mix the two....ealy 70's was all about COTTON-casual wear and relaxation while late 70's was all about Disco (God shoot me) and....Polyester cloths.....God it was horrible.....if you want to buy vintage clothing check out "Sazz Vintage" a website; have fun, No polyester.....rock-on. (Disco sucks) oh, in closing, there were Two separate disco era's one they came and died around 1968 (lasted less than six months) and a revival of 1977-82....
