I have a 300gb IDE hard drive and a maxtor 'one touch' enclosure. when I put the drive in the enclosure and plug it in to my pc, it won't recognize it. do I need to use some software or install a driver?

I've tried it on 3 pcs and had no luck anywhere. any help would be great.

Dunno. Make sure the IDE/SCSI cable is plugged in. For IDE, I think you need to make sure the drive has the "master" jumper setting. Make sure the enclosure is plugged into power.

Beyond that I'm not sure what problem you're having. It could also be that the drive itself is busted.

Most USB enclosures AFAIK simply present themselves as a removable drive, just like a USB key drive would, so there shouldn't be any driver needs.
