thx pearl for the info but i can burn any format on cd's but on dvd's

What type of DVD drive are you using. ARe you sure it is a DVD recording drive and not simply a CD recording/ DVD playing drive. Are you sure you have compatable DVD media. There are different types like DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD-RW, DVD-R, DVD-RAM, etc. Not all dvd drives are compatable with all blank DVDs. If you are DO have a recording drive and ARE using the correct type of blank dvds, then I would suggest contacting either the store you bought it from or the DVD drive manufactuer (via the internet should be fine) to get help on getting it to work.

The program that you are using really matters. I had the same problem with Nero. Some dvd burning software requires you to manually select the exact size of the disk that you are writing to and also you have to be aware of the piracy lockouts that most US software has enabled.

if this is the case look into AnyDVD
