I installed Windows XP off of a cd my friend gave me onto my other computer, and it seemed to work out fine, but now that I have it installed I have noticed that the only programs on it are the games. No IE, no WMP...nothing!! When I asked he told me he thought they were supposed to be there, and I must have did something wrong. Whatever the case... i need to know what to do now!! I just want the quickest fix to get me back running online....once i'm there I could get other programs I need, if theres no easier way. Please let me know what my options are...

THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR YOUR HELP!!

I've read the 2 answers posted so far and thought I would add these tidbits to further clarify...
When I click on "add / delete" Windows programs as the first person said, it indeed shows IE, WMP, and all the others, BUT it says they are all empty files( 0.0 MB), so I can't possibly add them.
As for the second response...I tried the remedy that was suggested, but typing the microsoft webpage into the address bar didn't work either. In fact I can't connect anywhere on the internet while using the pc im referring too.
Thanks for your efforts though...keep em coming!! I gotta get this figured out!

you either need to take it to the shop, buy an xp disk or install a dif os. for some reason it wasn't all there and even if it were once you have it all and are up and running you will rcv. ms notice that u have 30 days to register or windows will be shut down. the problem is when u go to register they also ask for the product key and a product key is only good 1 time unless more licenses are purchased from ms. ms knows what they are doing, i just went thru all of this and have a pc that i built sitting next to me with xp and its only good for another 25 days, i searched p2p networks for product keys and there are thousands and people say they work. i tried many and ms didn't accept any? good luck!!!

It's simple.

1) Go to the Control Panel
2) Go to Add/Remove programs.
3) On the sidebar, go to Add/Remove Components
4) Select all of the components you want, and deselect the ones you don't. Then click OK. The computer might ask you for the Windows XP CD.

Good luck!

You must have IE installed, it is essential to windows. Do a search for 'iexplore.exe' and run that, Windows XP cannot run without IE present. After you find IE, got to Windows Update to get your other stuff, but Windows Media Player should be included too.
