The best place would be a reptile sanctuary, if you do a google search you should be able to find one near you. They will take great care of the turtles until they find someone suitable to care for them.

No please don't release them into the wild. I don't know what type of turtle you are talking about but since you didn't say tortoise I imagine a pet store would at least be a good start. My desert tortoise died last week and I will never be the same. If anyone knows of one that needs a home I'm in LosAngeles County, Calif. Thanks! Where do you live and what kind are they we could take them, if you live near us.
Do not release them into the wild the can be carrying a disease that can kill other turtles.

attempt small stay earthworms. I even have yet to be sure the turtle that could stand up to them. forget the vegetables. stay fish, different than goldfish, and delicate-bodied bugs are reliable too.

if they are native to your area i think they can be released into the wild. but i would check wiht your game managment authorities there
