I see a lot of ignorance..
People who claim to research this, apparently haven't.
Either that, or spent too many hours of their time on anti-drug government websites..
Weed is illegal for one reason, political.
Any amount of research will get you to that point..
Weed DOESN'T cause anything that will be passed down to your kids..WTF?
Weed, unlike tobacco, can be consumed in a myriad of ways, that DOES NOT bring a long the carcinogens that smoking it does... Including brownies, tea, steam..etc..etc.
More and more studies are coming along saying that marijuana is actually beneficial to you.
Alcohol is poison. Pure out... POISON.. In small doses, it can be good for you, sure..
In larger doses, it kills brain-cells, destroys liver and kidney's... Alcohol can cause birth defects... PASS THAT onto your children..

First, alcohol is not worse than marijuana because with alcohol you know exactly what you are getting. With marijuana there are no standards or controls. You can't be sure what exactly you are buying, not to mention that you are breaking the law. The same was the case with alcohol during prohibition and many people died from "bathtub gin."
What is proven with marijuana is that it disconnects pathways that neurons travel in the brain. Once these pathways are disconnected they cannot be restored. Basically like alzheimer's.
I imagine that when a test is developed that would work like a breathalizer, but for marijuana intoxication, it will be legalized but controlled and taxed much like alcohol is now.

First of all..weed is NOT addictive. I have seen LONG term users(I'm talking 3-4 times a day for over a year, excluding a select few days) quit with no side effects and no withdrawal symptoms. I don't use as often, but have still noticed the NON-EXISTENT withdrawal symptoms. This is another false statement about something that is in reality less harmful than alcohol and a lot of the things we do. Everyone needs to get over there **** and learn the true facts. Your brain is in more danger with alcohol consumption than marijuana. Rent the movie Grass and it'll explain a few things for the amateur. The internet is also a great place to start!

Pot users bury their heads in the sand.
1. Pot causes psychiatric problems such as bi-polar disorder in it's users and as the strength of pot increses so does the proble.
2. Many people die and are injured through drivers under the influence of pot. New test on the way for drivers and pot stays in the system for five days - a lot of licences going to go there then!!
3. Pot use is the first step for most addicts into the life of hard drugs. Whilst pot may not be addictive in some, it is in others and the medical damage - particularly to brain and lung continues.
4. In most cases alcohol related problems are much easier to deal with than drugs.
5. Pot Smoking is far more carcinogenic than smoking normal cigarettes. Perhaps pot smokers are to out of it to see the logic in that!
I suggest that you stop paying into a pension fund if you are using pot and buy more to really enjoy the short span of life your active brain will be able to enjoy!

Marijuana was originally criminalized during a time of heavy migration of Hispanics. This law was a way of discriminating against Hispanics so the could legally be sent out of the country.

There aren't any good reasons. But that answer by John is hilarious. That can't be serious. I mean to be completely wrong with every word? C'mon, it has to be a joke.
Anyone who says alcohol isn't worse then pot has no clue what they are talking about, so you should just disregard what they say. I dare them to find one death from marijuana.

There may be many reasons, but...
In total, alcohol is NOT worse than marijuana. Whoever told you that was making excuses for pot.
True, alcohol is a dangerous substance. But marijuana is, in many ways, actually worse.

I have never understood why. I think they should legalize drugs and end this war that only causes more problems. If drugs were legal people wouldn't be killing each other in shootouts and drive-bys. The inner cities would be revitalized and prosper. This country loves wars that can't be won. Just look at Vietnam and Iraq? The war on drugs is the same way.

They make big contributions to our beloved elected officials campaign funds.
Also, think of all the people that would be unemployed and there fore could not pay taxes so that our elected officials can stand around do little for the people who elected them and get automatic pay raises equaling more than the average person makes in ten ears.
Of course that is just my personal opinion and like everything else everyone has one. LOL

I do not agree with your premise. Nevertheless, why is alcohol legal and weed not legal? Weed is very addictive, as is alcohol. But, weed can cause genetic defects that are passed on to the user's children and grandchildren. That is reason enough to make it illegal. Think about the others you hurt when you use
And, as far as Aviator's obsdervations are concerned they are simply wrong. Rehab clinics have more than their fair share of weed users, along with alcohol, crack, cocaine and heroin users. Weed is just as addictive, and some say more addictive, than alcohol. As for the birth defects, the scientific evidence bears this out.
