The War on Drugs. Many kids in your class will automatically say that "drugs are bad, and we should support the War on Drugs" but bring in subtopics such as medical marijuana use for dying patients, the billions of dollars spent each year trying to contain the flow of drugs (which often doesn't work), and the millions spent on non-violent drug offenders in prisons. There is also the fact that George Washington and Thomas Jefferson cultivated marijuana on their own farms, and that the War has caused many police officers to do dealings with drug dealers, leading to corruption.
The War on Drugs has gone on for decades now, and has not done any good other than swelling our prisons, eating the national budget, and creating a HUGE black market for illegal drugs. This topic is hotly debated every year, and no one in your class will probably be brave enough to do a report on the reasons that the War on Drugs should be stopped.

here is a very original topic.... ethnol -- alt fuel made from corn or wheat is not moral.... it is cruel and hurts the poor
why... once we start making it.. corn and wheat will become a Cash Crop.. worth lots of money.. and we can not grow enough to fuel the needs we have just in the United States.. so the price for corn and wheat will sky rocket.. which means other foods will not be grown.. or if they are the price for them will also sky rocket... in the end.. poor people that rely on corn and wheat as a staple for a cheap meal will starve...

Here are some....should talk shows be regulated, should helmets be required, is 16 the right age to get a drivers lisence, are the paparazi stalkers, should street racing be legal, and should there really be a juvenille detention center for young people who commit crimes. Hope this helps;)
