Salamis is an island just southwest of Athens, Greece. Are you familiar with the movie "300", which depicts the battle of Thermopylae? That took place during the Persian War. In 480 B.C., Persia attacked Greece with an enormous army. The Greek victory in the naval battle at Salamis turned the tide of the war.

The body of water where the battle was fought is usually called the Saronic Gulf. The Bay of Salamis would be basically the same area.
