I think it is something they check when doing an ultrasound to determine the possibility of Downs Syndrome.

Yes, it is the skin on the back of the head just about where it meets the baby's neck. A thickened nuchal fold can indicate Down's Syndrome in a fetus. Mine was read at 17 weeks and luckily was normal. They also do blood work to determine your risk for genetic abnormalities.

Yes. A thickened nuchal fold is a sign of possible Down Syndrome - maybe other genetic problems.

Yes, I even asked about it while having my ultrasound at 20 weeks. She said the baby was too small to measure it.
It's an indicator of Down's Syndrome.
