Being in HR for several years sometimes a friendly check-in is much preferred to the constant "did I get the job" calls. With all of the things going on with the business sometimes there might be delays or other priorities take precedence. I would wait to the next morning after he said he'd call you.
Call the guy back, re-introduce yourself and let him know that you are "checking to find out the status of the position and if any hiring decisions had been made." If not you can ask if he has an estimate on when they may be making a decision. Thank him for his time." Again, "friendly" vs "pushy" is important....especially if you want the job. Good luck...I hope you get the job.

First, congratulations on you interview. There are different schools of thought on this, but understand this: This position is a priority to you. However, filling it may not be the employer or hiring manager's top priority. These folks have demanding schedules and huge responsibilities. In my opinion, you shouldn't be afraid to call. Taking the initiative is a very positive sign to an employer. By calling him, you are showing that you're willing to do more than "just what is expected." This also demonstrates that you're interested in the position. This is no "secret," as you applied and interviewed for the job.
Don't be intimidated. You're going to be working with--and for--this person. Be pleasant during the call and suggest that you weren't exactly sure who was supposed to make the call, but you'd made a note that today was the day. This should also impress the perspective employer.
Good luck!

Employers generally avoid contacting you if they have given the job away or for some reason no longer need another person. But since he sounds interested, you may want to wait until tomorrow or later tonight, and try to leave a message on his machine.
If you're nervous, write down what you plan on saying first, and read off it while on the answering machine. But don't be caught of gaurd if he answers the phone!

Wait for a day or two, then call if you haven't heard. Sometimes it takes a little while to get offers approved, etc.

enter the job you want to have and find the manager you talked to, he may be busy and maybe that's why he hasn't called out yet
