Is there a guard or something that I can just buy...That doesn't entail dentist visits and big $$??....Or just to hold me until I can afford it?

Go to your local sports supply store and buy an athletic mouth guard that you mold by sticking it in hot water for about 30 seconds or so, then forming it to your teeth and letting it cool for 2 minutes. I bought one before I got my dental night guard and it cost me less than $2. They aren't the best and you'll probably have to train yourself to keep it in, but it works in a pinch. Good luck!

Biting on the eraser end of a pencil helps. It evenly distributes the pressure in your teeth when you clench.
