When you are in the shower, by yourself, you are not nervous or self conscious. When you're nervous and you try to sing, the first thing to go is breath support, which can give you a breathy, childish sound. The more you sing in front of other people, the easier it becomes. I don't know if you sing while you wash your hair or not, but lifting your arms elevates the ribcage, which improves breath support. Also, if you think you sound better in the shower, you will.

The accoustics of the room. Theatres etc use special materials etc to make things sound better. The smallness and materials in a bathroom can do the same. Good luck with the singing career!

The hard surfaces in the bathroom like tiles give you a reverb effect which makes your voice sound better than it would. Also the steam from the bath or shower helps open up your breathing passages, allowing you to sing better and get more air past your vocal chords.

The Doors actually recorded a song or an album in a bathroom
Acoustics are great!
They should have one episode of American Idol in the showers!

first of all, as a lot of people said, the bathroom has great acoustics.
plus, the humidity of the air when you're taking a shower makes your voices sound better. that's why you'll see singers backstage with a humidifier in their dressing room =D
hope that helps!

The closeness of the shower stall walls makes your voice seem louder because they reflect the sound quickly back to your ears.

Same thing happens to me; I think it's because in the shower you are pretty drowned out by the water and you can just plain sing, no one hears you, you know?

I think its to do with the sound hitting hard, flat surfaces in a shower rather than the multitude of soft items found elsewhere.
