Nope.
We are a Constitutional Limited Republic.
The Democracy you speak of is for the right to vote and make a choice.
A true Democracy is EVERYONE vote about EVERYTHING, also known as mob rule.

The national anthem is a SONG. It has nothing to do with the form of govenrment we have in the USA. It is not an official document.

The constitution on the other hand describes a system of government which is a Democracy (rule by elections of the people). Due to the limited comunication possible at the time it was determined to use a complex system involving an electoral system for president but the house of representatives in the USA is set down in the constitution as being elected by the people (DEMOCRACY).

Now our Democracy is not a mob rule, because we elect leaders who have to make unpopular decisons, or the popular mood "changes". Often our leaders know deteailed information on subjects that is not known to the public as a whole and, therefore make decisions which may not appear to be popular to a public who has not been as acurately or thouroughly informed of the alternative to decisions that have been made (like the war).

In a absolute "democracy" the public can change their mind on important matters too rapidly to provide the stable environment that society desires. In our represenative democracy our leaders have to look ahead to the consequences of our actions over a longer term to maintain long term popularity. Sometimes therefore our leaders make decisions that they belive are more popular in the long term even if less popular in the short term. Sometimes being human our leaders make incorrect judgements on the consequences of their actions and misjudge future populartiy of their actions, but that does not mean that our system is not a democracy.

If you dont think we have a democracy here in the USA your opinions on how the rest of the world works and what we should or should not be doing there is useless, because you are totally clueless as how things work here where you have firsthand exposure, how can you be expected to know about the rest of the world. Iraq was previously ruled by a despot who did not even attempt to do what was right for the people of his country.

We are a Republic.. and its pretty dang weird to me that so many 'americans' don't even know what form of government we have here. Everyone that answered this question got it right, but the knucklehead liberal american-hating entitlement loving dropout that asked the question apparently wasn't paying attention the day that one of our fine public school teachers explained government, and the story of F. Scott Key and the Anthem. Maybe we should set the text of the constitution to music and sing it before baseball games.

In fact, Im not sure if Britney "oops, I did it again" so Im not sure why we are in iraq. And I know that "fat bottom girls make the rockin world go round" but I don't see what that has to do with Iraq either. "hey, teacher, leave them kids alone" must have been his anthem.

We are NOT a democracy. We are a representative republic. The founding fathers knew that raw democracy was a very bad thing. The tyranny of the majority over the minority.

Oh, and what a terrible troll you are.

Democracy is a mechanism by which the freely formed opinions/ views of the majority of the citizens on any issue relating to the affairs of the State/ Nation is implemented after all kinds of views have been expressed and debated. This is not what is to be part of the National Anthem unless it was so decided by majority.
The test whether a country practices or not is simple: does the majority view gets implemented or not.
There are countries/ nations which are not based on democracy and would not like democratic countries to prosper for the simple reason that a group of people or a single family or a single man wants to rule the country the way they/he/she like/s. These regimes are oppressive to the citizens.
The oppressed need help to free themselves from tyrant rulers in the same way as the people in poverty need help of others to feed themselves and get out of poverty.
If a Nation believes in democracy, it may like to help oppressed people to get out of the clutches of the non-democratic, oppressive rulers in other countries. But doing that may involve costs and sacrifices. A democratic country weights the burden of costs and sacrifices and then decide by majority whether to help oppressed people in other countries come out of the clutches of oppressive rulers/ dictators. No one in the World canhave right to oppress others even within his country/ nation. Each oppressed person has the right to seek/ get help from foreighners to come out of the clutches of oppressive rulers.

We have a democratic government and specifically we have a Republic, like the Romans did. Most national anthems do not state the type of government that is in the country; France's doesn't, Canada's doesn't, Hawai'i's didn't (before they became a state) and Italy's doesn't. I'm sure other countries don't as well.

The United States is not a democracy. It is a federal republic.

No majority is intended to have the power to impose its will on any minority. That is why the fundies' "dominion theology" is unAmerican and dangerous to our freedom. In our Republic, the fact that one religion happens to have more adherents than others does NOT create authorization for the majority to impose its views on the rest of society.

We are a democratic republic, becauase the populace votes for the elected leadership.

As opposed to a theocratic republic (leaders chosen based on church rank), or an aristocratic republic (leaders chosen based on lineage), or an economic republic (leaders chosen based on net monetary worth). Though, some argue that we keep slipping close to each of those.

We are not a "pure" democracy, nobody is. It's simply not realistic to have 300,000,000 people trying to write and pass laws.

But we do have a democratic system.
