well, they are not called labtops. they are called laptops, common misconception. They called it a laptop because they can be used on your lap and on the go. People were very excited that you can take your computer and put it on your lap. But it is not recommended for men.

It was a marketing term. The Gavilan SC in 1983 was the first to be marketed as a "laptop".

may be the first early sciencist who discover the name gave it.but u know it ,might be some lation or hebrew name name,u know how people like to convert name to different kind. so it might be from there

well first off it's called LAP TOP computers...and there fore got its name cuz you use them while they sit on your LAP.
