i give them 4 years. they actually have a good young group coming up. problem with them is-the front office always gives away their players once the season goes down hill. once they stop doing this and start holding on to the talent they get..they'll start winning again.

At least they are going to be interesting this year. They have a lot of young talent. Mark Teahen is a heck of a player and will only get better. Alex Gordon is a phenom. Billy Butler can hit a ton. The Royals have tremendous talent in the farm system, which they should, they have been drafting #1 or #2 for years.

I think that questionable moves like the Meche signing could prevent them from becoming a contender soon. Look at other "small-market" teams like the Oakland A's. They would never overpay for a player that has a career ERA of .465 and has won 15 games exactly once in his career. In fact, the A's seem to lose more talented players than Meche every year, but continue to be much better than the Royals. They don't spend a lot of money, but they spend smart.

Sports teams seem to have cycles. The Tigers were awful for a long time. There were talks of contracting the Twins a few years back. Just be patient.

Yes, they're getting better by the minute. They'll drastically improve over last year, possibly getting close to .500 and pulling themselves out of the AL Central cellar. Notice I said possibly, thats not a guarantee. They have the future ROY playing at 3rd, Grienke seems to be over his "personal issues", but the bullpen still needs a lot of improvement. Give them another two years to improve the pitching staff and I truly believe they could contend for a wild card spot.

GO ROYALS!!!!!!!!!

of coarse they will. just because they dont have a lot of money doesnt mean they will be bad.
one thing that most people forget about is the farm system. the royals have a good system and not only that... they have the best prospect in america in alex gordon. im not saying that they will win the world series this year or untill 2010 but they will be good eventually and will make the playoffs.

just wait untill they get a little older

Maybe they will, but I would be more inclined to say no.

Small-market clubs like Tampa and Kansas City don't have the money to hold onto great players who bolt for money when free-agency comes their way.

Look at what happened to Montreal.

Don't hold your breath waiting for it to happen you might die!! Their business model seems to be typical of alot of small market teams spend as little as possible, get as much of a profit as possible, sign players on the downside of their career and just float along as long as the fans buy tickets and merchandise.

Yes. A team can't stay down forever. They will get thing rolling in the near future with their current young talent. It just takes some time.
