Oz is brilliant! I don't know much about the financial stuff, but labor and trucking jobs are pretty easy to come by here. Our housing industry is going pretty well right now so there's plenty in that department. What i can recommend is our booming mining industry - the pay for driving a truck in a mining company is fantastic. Minimum wage depends on age. If you're under 18 they can pay you crap wages, but over that and beyond 21 the minimum is somewhere around $10/hour (possibly higher). Grocerys are a little bit expensive at the moment. We're in a drought so meat, fruit and vege are all up. Petrol is a killer at about $1.24 per litre. Houses prices are up (you'd need an average $110,000 for the price of the land alone) - obviously this all depends on where you buy. If your looking to move to a major city - Sydney and the Gold Coast are the most expensive with Perth, Hobart, and Darwin the cheapest. Melbourne and Adelaide are in the middle. The lowest level of insurance for a car is known here as 'Bomb' coverage ('Bomb' in reference to a car in Oz means 'junk-heap'). This only covers theft and 3rd party damage. It costs around $300- per annum, depending on age and your driving rating. Everything else, I can't really help with...

Well unless someone has lived both in Canada and Austrailia and kept some bills to compare the two, chances are you're not going to get very good answers. Sometimes groceries and electricity can vary just from company to company, nevermind country.

Various taxes in Australia are on the website listed.
