As someone who doesn't eat pork, I can assure you that I am certain that McDonald's doesn't fry their french fries in lard. I do know that a few years ago, they were cooked in beef fat. And this was all over the news.

As far as Skittles are concerned, the gelatin is also beef.

I am not sure about Burger King though. A few years ago, I read that there buns were made with lard.

I don't believe they are. I think McDonald's used vegetable or peanut oil now. There was a big stink a few years back about some sort of beef coating on them, but I think they stopped that.

I didn't know there was gelatin in skittles. Yuck. Gelatin of all types is made of animal bones. I am not sure specifically what kind. :( It makes me sad. I have looked for an alternative, but have been unsucessful in finding one. I miss rice crispy treats.

McDonalds and Burger King both use plant oils (canola) to fry their fries.

On a commercial scale, gelatin is made from by-products of the meat and leather industry, mainly pork skins, pork and cattle bones, or split cattle hides. Recently, by-products of the fishery industry began to be considered as raw material for gelatin production because they eliminate most of the religious obstacles surrounding gelatin consumption

I'm not sure about the skittles or Burger King....but I worked at McDonalds for 2 years and the grease they used was oil. It was a mix of peanut and soybean oil. Not lard.

McDonald's fries their fries (and hash browns) in vegetable oil, but they use flavoring that contains beef and are therefore NOT vegetarian.

Burger King fries are vegetarian.

Gelatin comes from hooved animals, so any product that contains gelatin contains hooved animal product. Maybe pig, maybe not.
