If two people are in love than that's that. No one can tell a person how to love if it was meant to be.
It takes two to make a thing alright. A relationship takes work Every day we you awake you have another chance to make it better if thats what you want. Can't no counselor fix it but you. It has to be what you want.

Good 'counseling' is far more than 'just sitting there and letting you figure out what is wrong with yourself.' I'm a psychologist, and I do tell many people that they MAY need counseling and/or medication to 'deal with' their problems 'long term' ... but I also try to give them 'simple, good advice' for 'right now,' too, because I know that finding a good counselor can take 'more time' than some of these people have to 'give' at this point in their lives. So I 'do care' about these people ... and I don't want my 'advice' to ever be seen as just 'hand holding' or 'shuffling someone to see a counselor' when what the person wants and 'needs' from their question here is to KNOW THAT THEY'VE BEEN HEARD, and that SOMEONE IS LISTENING and feels the 'pain' ...

Maybe it's Dr. Phil overkill, maybe people wish to emulate Dear Abby and the like or the many other advice columnists out there. In some cases, counseling could truly help a person. A counselor is not just going to listen...they don't 'let you' figure out...they will provide guidance, perhaps give options. I will say though, that if I do come across a question that I can relate to a certain experience in my life, I will share what I've learned with the person asking the question.

Sometimes some problems are way too big or complicated for one, or even two, or even a whole family to deal with on their own. Working your way through a problem (not around) and learning how to cope with the sh#$ life throws at you are not skills everyone just automatically have or even learn at an appropriate age. Counselors (not necessarily psychiatrists, but people like social workers) are trained to remain objective and be an advocate for what is good and healthy for you- not to tell you what you want to hear. Changing yourself, your baggage, and your future is *HARD WORK* and if people think and recommend that someone here would benefit from having someone else who *has the tools and the communications skills* to better assist someone with their issue, as opposed to random people, most of whom seem to be 14 years old and lacking grammar skills, more power to them. A recommendation to counseling might just be the recommendation of someone who truly cares.

Great question....a lot of people do give advice, but I think you are shortsighted to give counseling so little credit. It's like any other profession, some are good, some are not, sometimes you have to get a good personal reference....did you have a bad counsleing experience?

because sometimes a professional that can hear the " Whole" problem is the best course, we here only read a small tidbit of information and some people ( sometimes more than half ) always have some smart response that doesnt help the person asking the question at all
