It will continue just as the ps1 continued for fours years after the ps2 was released. Infact I just recieved an email from sony with a huge list of games coming out for the ps2.

Eventually you will see less and less new games for PS2... But for now, the PS2 is still going strong! With some of the best games ever created for PS2 out or on its way (God of War 2, Final Fantasy, etc) and very strong hardware sales during the past Christmas, PS2 continues going strong!

And remember, the PS3 is backwards compatible - Meaning it will still play those old PS1 and PS2 titles.
