You could run it down to a perverse mind (perverse in many senses not just the one), an addiction, an obsession, or maybe a desire to have something which isn't attainable - almost like a thrill from something unrequited-
Maybe he is someone who had a warped upbringing - or hasn't had much success in a long standing relationship or in real life. And is person who is seriously lacking in self-worth.
Stalking also could be a way to be in control of a situation, and to feel a sense of power or 'dominance' over the victim he is stalking.

Erotomania, which sometimes makes a man believe that they are actually having a relationship with a woman when they are not. This can be a symptom of a mental illness such as schizophrenia or a paranoid personality disorder.. Or it could be a control/power issue to induce fear.

I don't know. I've admired women from afar but never felt the need to stalk them. May be stalkers have a mental imbalance.

No idea .. my ex stalked me for a while after we split up ... was scary .. was doing the dishes one day, which is a miracle in itself, i looked up and my ex was watching me thro the kitchen window ... ohhhh not nice ...
but woman stalk men too ..
think that there emotions take over and they cant control their action , maybe they think that if they pay u enough attention u will fall for the charms ...
