I have two Goldfish, and I think they are very smart.
They know when i wake up from bed because every time I go to the living room they get all excited.
Also they know when they are fed: I feed them around 9 or 10 at night and all day they swim around the tank with not a care in the world, then around 8-10pm they get all excited every time I get up or move around.
And finally, I have a special floating ring I put the food in so it stays in one place. And everytime I lift the top they go straight to it waiting for the food.
Therefore, I think Goldfish are smarter then we think :)

I remember on Mythbusters they did this and proved that goldfish do not have a 3 second memory. I love that show =B

I don't have any links or sources, but I do know that goldfish do have some long term memory. My goldfish always know to go to the back corner of their tank when I come over and lift up their food, so obviously they can remember something.

I ws just here to check a question i asked yesterdy and saw this. I don't watch much tv , but I gather mythbusters came out in favor of a longer memory from other answers I've read. According to the online dictionary conditioning is
A process of behavior modification by which a subject comes to associate a desired behavior with a previously unrelated stimulus.
Ain't that the same as remembering what happened to you?

I do have an elephant's reminiscence whilst it includes trivial concerns. whilst i grow to be a teenager I had a visit to Coromandel that lasted from 10-13 January 1994. i will undergo in concepts beside the point info like that. what's a goldfish's reminiscence like? Oh yeah .... i might fairly have an elephant's reminiscence than a goldfish's reminiscence. what's a goldfish's reminiscence like? Oh yeah .....

The mythbusters are wrong on this one. A man has used classical conditioning to teach goldfish tricks. You can see pictures on the website below.

I don't have a link but its very well known that its the shortest memory in the animal world , it's only 5 seconds , and I know that as a fact as a previous life experience.

goldfish have a days memory span, after they sleep, they forget what happened the day before, they will explore the tank all over again.
