Dear Sasi,
We certainly do live in a sick world, don't we! Every time I think I've heard the Worst News Possible I hear something even worse. I think that everybody who has answered would agree on one thing: We would like to live in a world where such things never happen.
I would like to comment on something actung said -
"Sadly, this questioner continues to demonstrate that her primary interest is in disparaging Jehovah's Witnesses ..."
Where do you get such silly notions? How can any adult who calls themself a human being, not weep to hear such a story and search their hearts to find out what they can do to make sure a similar thing never ever happens again!
Based on what I have observed of Sasi's other questions and her answers, she would be commenting no matter what religion the person was. She is not disparaging jws, she is disparaging inhumane treatment by a so-called human being.
Based also on what I have observed of jws that I know, they are usually the ones with their radar tuned to any unseemly activity on the part of any non-witnesses.

Do I sense a degree of defensiveness from the JW answers? Rather than attack the asker of the question, should they not be seeking clarity from the BBC? If, as they claim, the woman in question was not a Jehovah's Witness, then JW's should demand an apology and a retraction from the BBC. Take your grievance to the top.
It has been stated that a member of the local congregation was concerned about this woman, so she must have been known to them. That being the case, then (a) why did it take so long for this to come to light and (b) why did the local congregation do nothing about it until the authorities stepped in?
Accusing this woman of not being a true Christian, of being a hypocrite, smacks to me of people in glass houses throwing stones. So it was all her fault, was it? So the local congregation wanted to wash their hand of her? So there was nothing anyone could possibly have done to intervene and help? Never heard of the parable of the good Samaritan?

I think the key to your question is "Close Knit". Since I have not seen the report and do not personally know the people involved I cannot say if she was close with any of the Witnesses. And even so, to do something like these accusations tell, one must be insane, often a By Product of various insanities is high intelligence. What matter, is someone did notice, and did report things.

Sadly, this questioner continues to demonstrate that her primary interest is in disparaging Jehovah's Witnesses, rather than in sharing Christian "good news" or even in propagating the truth. In fact, the BBC itself reported that it was the concerned questions of a JW congregation member that worked to uncover the abuse in this case.
Clearly, this foster mother was not a true Christian, despite what she may have claimed. Sadly, she is not the first hypocrite to call herself Christian, and it is shameful that this questioner connects this abuse to the woman's feigned religion.
Thus far, no news organization has offered evidence that the woman was an active member of her congregation, or that she attended meetings regularly. A person who is not a baptized Jehovah's Witness cannot be disfellowshipped; disfellowshippings are only announced in one's local congregation.

Mankind needs help.
Atrocities you describe have been happening throughtout the ages ...... in every nook and cranny.
How did the whole society of Germany .... catholic and protestant and others ... allow that agressiveness and cruelty to grow ? How are so many priests and other religious leaders guilty of abuse and yet .... covered up for years ?
People can be very deceptive and ...... we don't have the unseen eye to catch everything. God is spose to have that and ... if you believe in him ...... he's spose to make everything right one day ..........

Hi sasi. What you are trying to say is that the congregation permits such things to happen. That's not true. It's like you'd say that even I would agree with something like this which is an offense.
There are many apostates who are trying to stain our reputation.
Thanks for proving again that we are the true religion.
On the last night before his death, Jesus Christ told his apostles: “By this all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love among yourselves.” He added: “If you were part of the world, the world would be fond of what is its own. Now because you are no part of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, on this account the world hates you.” (John 13:35; 15:19) Like Jesus, Jehovah’s modern-day Witnesses are hated by the world yet known for their love.

I know that the elders choose what to look at and what not to look at. There are some JW's here that did a lot of things with impunity that others were unable to get away with.
Unfortunately this is not the first case of child abuse in the JW's.
