A corncob doll- I'm surprised that you have even heard about them!
I have actually seen one of these and can't imagine a child playing with it--but then again I've never been that poor.
Evidently after the corn was harvested, dried, and taken off the cob (to be used for food for animals or seed), the remaining dried out cobs were used for many different things.
Sometimes parents would take a dried cob, sew dried corn silk on the top of the cob, sew on eyes, a nose, and a mouth. Then dress it up with leftover scraps of fabric. This was given to their little girls to play with and it would have to last until the next harvest.
My Great Grandmother and her neighbor spoke about their "husk dolls" with fondness.
Hope this answers your question.

Just exactly what it sounds like~a doll made from a corn cob. After cutting the kernels from the cob, let it dry thoroughly, then you can use the corn husks to make clothes, corn silks for the hair. Use seeds, beans, etc to make the eyes, nose & mouth and if you would like arms on it, you can use small tree limbs/branches. They were popular hundreds of years ago along with the dried apple dolls. For many families these were the only kinds of dolls they could afford for their children. You can also make some animals from corn cobs, as well as corn cob pipes.

It is a little doll made from the dried cob with a bit of husk still attached. You can fold the husk and tie to show arms and skirt. I've made them when I was in camp one year.
