Having seen some of the answers, I should add that I don't have a cockney accent. Mine is more 'Hugh Grant'. Though I don't know whether that's a good thing or not, haha

I don't really like their accents, although I had a friend who had a irish kind of accent and it was so amazing combined with his voice.

I wouldn't say everyone likes the British accent. There are a few who do. It's different I guess. Here in America people across the country have different accents. For example people down south talk differently than easterners so many people down south may like the easterners accent because it's different.

I am an American and I find Cockney accents disturbing. Other British accents are rather pleasant. It sounds more refined and so much different than an American accent. It seems like you are more proper.

I don't like the British accent, I prefer a refined southern American accent.

I can say that I prefer it over someone speaking a language I don't know, but that's as far as it goes.

I dunno. I just love any accent really. British is one of my favorites. I used to work at a call center, and whenever some one with a British accent called in, whatever they said just sounded so much more expressive, and if they said something funny, it was just hilarious when combined with the accent.

I think Americans tend to take a liking to whatever is different from the norm...it feels exotic.

I don't know if this helps, but I think it is because a lot of people associate the British accent with intelligence.

The obvious lack of dental care displayed while listening to a Brit destroys whatever charm the accent may convey.

it's sexy, the end.
nah, just kidding. it's just a different from what we're used to hear so i think it's because it's kind of sweet to hear other people's accent.
