Why do so many Mexican American teenagers have kids?

Supposedly it's because birth control is against their religion. Well, isn't premarital sex against their religion too?

its kinda racist and unfair to say its just the mexican american teenagers. and not every mexican american is the same religion so u cant say its against their religions. but if u look into it a little more u will see its all races. not just mexican americans

I don't think it's fair for this question to focus on one race or ethnic group. Or did you not hear of that town in Ohio? I'm 26, have a master's degree, I have been married for 5 years, and have one child, oh, yeah, and I'm Mexican American. Don't generalize about other races because it doesn't apply to all!

However, being Mexican American and although I did not have my first baby until I was 25 years old, I think as a culture (not religion) parents do not feel the need to talk to their children about safe sex, abstinence or anything related to that subject because it's a taboo issue. Yes, religion plays a factor, but not as big as culture and the mentality of my son/daughter won't do that. It has nothing to do with parents not caring for their children, like someone here said, it's culture. Regardless of the reasons, the idea of singling out one ethnic group is ignorant!

As for religion, Mexican-Americans don't all practice the same religion but they are mostly Roman Catholic, a religion that's practiced by millions of people all over the world, including the US, so if pregnancy is related to religion, shouldn't the question be, why do catholic teenagers get pregnant? Also, of the main religions in the world, Catholic, Protestant, Judaism, Islam etc., which one allows for sex before marriage?

It's true. MEXICAN-American teenagers have more kids than any other group. Where do you think stereotypes come from? Do you think they are randomly selected by a Magic 8 Ball?

The answer is: It has to do with how you are raised. It SOUNDS bad, but lower income societies have children at a MUCH younger age than higher income groups. Hey, I'm low income myself. I'm just too ugly to hook up with anyone.

Pop culture has made it "cool" to be a hood-punk that wears your hat sideways, has the striped baggy golf-shirt, the blue tooth earpiece, the $7000 worth of jewelry, a car that's 1" off the ground, and has no respect for the well being of your girlfriend or whoever. And girls are SUCKED into this image, and jump head over heals to have sex with these jokers.

I for one am deeply offended. I'm a Mexican American teenager myself and I do not have a kid running around the house.
I hate it that people like you go and stereotype us mexican girls.
Your question is racist but it's not only mexican american teenagers that are having kids, it's ALSO other ethnic groups.
I'd wouldnt' say that it's the teenagers fault, it's more of their Parent's fault because they obviously have some distorted values that they're teaching their kids.
My parents are from Mexico but I was born and raised here in the USA and my parents have always told me the importance of an education and how we should have kids AFTER we're married.
I for one am following this and I do not plan on getting pregnant any time soon.

I believe the question should be why are so many teenagers still having babies, if you look at the national teenage pregnancy statistics the rates are decreasing, but is still pretty high for a nation that consider itself developed. I don't believe the issue has anything to do with race or nationality but with some prudish practices still rampant in our country (no sexual education on public schools for example) kids are having sex, that's a reality, teenagers tend to think that they are smarter and they won't get pregnant because they had sex only once, crude awakening is for them to see that 2 months later a positive test came back. Parents need to be involved in sexual education if school is not providing it, parents need to be realistic about the sexual practices of teenagers, not only for unwanted pregnancy but also for STD's.

Ok that is racist. It's not just Mexicans who go around having sex out of marriage and making babies out of wedlock. It's whites, blacks, Hispanics, Mexicans, etc. And many Mexicanos don't have the same religion so that's not fair either. You might ask why do so many teenagers have sex outside of wedlock if it's against their religion? Because they do it because all their friends are doing it and making babies out of wedlock and they feel left out if they don't do it as well. Plus most teenagers are naive and don't think they can get pregnant by having sex.
