I am seriously having a hard time by trying to understand if "obsest" is upset or obsessed. If it is "upset", then don't feel that way with the games, since I think that the games didn't do anything bad. If it is "obsessed" then try to do other activities to make your mind stray away from video games. Trust me, I've tried it & has worked. Go ride a bike, watch a movie, go to your families houses, do anything to make you NOT think of games & then play them, but only for an hour. Once you do that, you can be alright. Ok, I hope this can help you & let me know if i deserve the 10 points for best answer.

The worst part of a video game 'addiction' is knowing that you are addicted. There are those who while away the hours behind closed doors, with no lights but the TV, controller in hand, day in and day out, but who don't even realize it. Luckily you noticed and had the presence of mind to realize that you are 'addicted'.
Personally, I play alot of video games, although I'm assuming not as often as you do, but I also know that there has to be a balance between the time you spend playing VG's and the time you spend doing other things. If you do nothing but go home and play games all night, don't go home. Call a friend (who doesn't like video games, or doesn't play them very often) and ask if they feel up to hanging out. Just fill your day with things to do other than video games.
I've heard of some people doing this by passing hours, days, weeks doing something other than video games. This can be bad too. One thing in particular comes to mind: the dreaded Myspace.com.
While Myspace can be alot of fun and you can be very social and keep in touch with lots of people, there is also such a thing as 'too much myspace'. In fact, too much of anything, even a good thing, can be negative.
The bottom line is, if you want to break your 'addiction', just fill your day with other things to do. Maybe talk to some ladies, get a girlfriend?? That's.... usually a good thing. Anyway, good luck with putting down the controller. Hope this helps.

Also, if you can go for a week at a time without playing any video games at all, I wouldn't call that 'addicted'. You just enjoy video games, maybe you're really good at them. There's nothing wrong with that. Just remember: always in moderation.

I have a feeling you're not actually obsessed. If you can go one week without playing, then you're fine. Gaming is a hobby, just like reading or crocheting or skateboarding. It is a hobby that tends to take up more time because of the variety of games that exist. It's fun, it's better than drugs, and more interactive than watching TV. What were you doing before you started gaming? If all you did was lay around and watch TV, I'd call this a step up.

Ways to know you ARE obsessed:
-You start losing sleep because you just want "one more level"
-You skip meals to play games
-You abandon all your other hobbies
-You (completely) abandon your friends
-Your schoolwork starts suffering (if you're in school)
-You think about it all day and dream about it at night

Do you do these things? If not, then embrace your happy new hobby! Join all the other gamers in the world and don't be ashamed.

I know how you feel. Video games can be very addictive. I've started playing at 8:00 PM then looked up at the clock and seen it's past midnight!

Don't go cold turkey. Limit your game playing time to one or two hours a day. Set a specific time such as from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM. Get into a habit of doing something else for the rest of the time like reading your favorite book or doing something outside. If you're trying to get rid of games altogether, continue to limit the time.

The most important thing is to stick to it. The key to breaking any habit is to replace one bad habit with another good habit.

Good luck!

Why do you want to stop? If you truly want to stop, you should have no trouble doing so. I've been a gamer my whole life. Now I'm a video game programmer. I love what I do.

Habits can be broken easily if you really want to stop doing whatever it is. It's not like a drug addiction or something... There's no "video game" chemical going through your system keeping you addicted.

Like anyone else, you play video games because they're fun. If you want to stop, then just go do something else you think is fun instead. Everybody needs fun in their lives somewhere...

okay man
first of all how old are you?

here is my answer if you are older than 20 years old.

people that play a lot of video games are generally smart people that are not productive (i don't mean to offend anyone but what are you going to do about it?).
for anyone who wants to achieve anything they must set goals. so for you, you might want to set a goal like this: "this week i will play for 20% less than what i would normally play." you can use a calender to write your goals down. use a calender that you see all the time. every week you make increase you negative play time.( lol. so i mean decrease) when you are not playing games find something else that you enjoy doing. example. i was a game addict too so i gave my Wii to my little brother and started to read business week magazine. i learned about how to make money using the ideas i found in business. now i play less games and make more money.
so just set goals for yourself and you can do anything!

it takes something 22 days to be a habit but it takes 3 to break the habit. The third day is always the hardest because in an addiction, that's when you crave it the most. hope i can help

Plus also, video games are weird. They arent even real or based on real events. think of them as what they are; games

The videos games are calling you. They are sad that you want to leave them. Don't make the video games sad. The video games are your friend. Your best friend. You wouldn't hurt your best friend would you? Thats a good boy, pick up the controler...
