If you restart the computer and go into safe mode, you will have the option to log into an administrator account. From there you can edit passwords under "user accounts" in the control panel.
To get into safe mode, you need to hit the "F8" key a few times before the "windows" splash screen comes up when you are booting.

There is a very easy way to do this. First boot into safe mode (F8), and log into the Administrator account. After that open a Command prompt (run > CMD) and type in "Net User" (without quotes). You will see the accounts of the computer listed.
Than type in "Net user [name] *" (for [name] put in your wife's user name listed above (make sure to add the * !)). Than you will be prompted for a new password. Type it in (Note: the cursor will not move when your typing, this is normal) When thats over close out and reboot into normal mode. And log into your wifes account using the new password.

If it's XP you can log on as administrator, to do this boot into safe mode (restart the computer and press f8 as soon as you see the message select operating system, it happens fast so just push it and hold it down as soon as you get past the memory test on boot-up).
When your in safe mode you can go into users/accounts (control panel) and remove the password or change it. You will be logged in as administrator - so you need to change it for your user account.

It depends, if the password is on one user acount then you can go to another account who is a computer administrater and just go to the contral panel and go to user acounts and delete the password if not just follow what others have said.
