Italy was first to collapse, but the fighting there continued as the Germans poured troops in to protect their southern flank.
After VE days American, Brits and Australasian troops were transferred to the Pacific to final beat the Japanese.
My father fought in Egypt, Italy and the Pacific and was part of the New Zealand effort of the occupying powers. ( J-Force )
Returned home 1947.
